Do I lose The “E”?

Changes To My Callsign Regional Secondary Locator

Like all amateur radio operators in the UK it was my turn to receive my email this morning from OfCom advising me that my callsign is no longer 2E0BAF but is now officially 20BAF. The Regional Secondary Locator, in my case “E” is entirely optional now.

For now I’m going to maintain the “E” in my callsign but later this year I’m going to seriously consider the option when it’s available to drop the “20” prefix and move over to the newly announced “M8 and M9” prefix. I think “M” is recognised more by international amateur radio operators that “2E0” which has always felt like it causes confusion.
